I Have A New Name!

June 27, 2014 by Jess Leave a Comment

Las Vegas Wedding

Just a quick little update to say a) I’m really busy (what else is new?!) and b) I just got married! I’ve taken my new husband Dan’s surname of Drakett. The name/domain for this blog will be changing to reflect this, just as soon as I’ve got a bit of time to myself to do the tweaky admin gubbins and tying up of loose ends without the jetlag and weird sleeping patterns. Bear with me – sooooo much admin! I’ve changed my Twitter handle already though, and you can find me @JessicaDrakett [Read more…] about I Have A New Name!

North West Gender Conference 2014

Boom. Another PhD milestone on the road to… erm… I’ll be totally honest with you, I don’t exactly know yet. But I’m having fun, so it doesn’t matter? On Tuesday I was up at 4am and out the door before 6am to attend the North West Gender Conference at Lancaster University. Large, strong coffee was consumed. A lot. Gatekeepers In Research & Recruiting

April 17, 2014 by Jess 4 Comments

Over the last two weeks I’ve had a really good response to my recruitment call for women in IT or women who have left careers in IT. I’m almost at a point where I can start arranging times with some of the women who have been in touch, which is really exciting. I get the feeling it’s possibly going to be a bit hectic, but… nothing’s ever straightforward. Not for me anyway. In addition to feeling excited (and nervous, and giddy, etc. etc.) I’m also feeling very grateful right now. Like, super grateful. [Read more…] about Gatekeepers In Research & Recruiting

I am so happy to be writing this post. SO HAPPY. This morning I picked up my signed off ethics forms, and that means I can start recruiting for my focus group studies on women in IT. Are you excited? I am! [Read more…] about Now Recruiting For Study – Women and IT

Memes, Memes Everywhere

March 17, 2014 by Jess 4 Comments

I’ve been slack, busy with a million and one things, and blogging hasn’t been at the top of my to do list – sorry not sorry?

So my memes study is done and put to bed, and I thought I wouldn’t have to look at another meme in university for a while (yes, to the untrained eye I may look like I’m dicking about on the Internet, but it’s research, I swear…) – oh how wrong I was. Student elections were running a few weeks back, and look what greeted me in the hallways… [Read more…] about Memes, Memes Everywhere

POWS Blog

December 12, 2013 by Jess Leave a Comment

I was the teenager who stayed behind after school for band practice, choir practice, drama club, to learn an extra language… and somehow, at 25, I still can’t say no when offered extra-curricular gubbins to get stuck into. It’s true, I have a bit of a problem with volunteering. [Read more…] about POWS Blog
